Challenges of Food Technology Industry


Food Industry is a collection of global businesses around the world that deals in supplying the food items to the consumers. Food Industries have involved many various new technologies to achieve the breakthroughs in this area yet food industy is one of the high risk business as it involves many challenges and competition for today.
When one decides to open a restaurant then there are certain points that need lots of consideration before finally putting your dream of having a food chain under your name and many day to day challenges crop up that one faces during it’s establishment.
Firstly, we need to understand that times have changed and before if we desired to have a particular cuisine, a stop at a particular restaurant was a must and orders were place with in a form of meals set at the table and enjoyed with families but now life has grown more busy and businesses have grown more complex.

The food technology industry have made it possible to deliver foods of different cuisines to reach our homes in few minutes as various applications have been created by the programmers which are getting widely accepted by the people around and this should be added to our businesses to flourish further on public’s demand.

 
Mobile have given access to the websites or application and they have also allowed navigation that has made it easier to reach to the farthest corner of the city for a restaurant to deliver their food item but, is it as easy as we think it to be? Definitely, the technology had opened doors to many facilities and comforts at our home but it has also opened doors to doubts and challenges for everyone.
Food technology has also succeeded in increasing the customers and their demands to deliver food at their door step but it have also given rise to food delivery companies in the market which take customer’s orders in their system and forward it to the restaurants. The delivery boy takes the orders and delivers it at the doorsteps.
While the core idea of this food delivery company is convenience and comfort but there are certain challenges that they combat everyday to retain their position and demand in market.
There are certain Challenges that food technology industry faces as they deliver foods around:
Food Safety: One of the major challenges that food industry is facing today is about food safety during delivery process. Once the order is received on behalf of the customers, food is packed and sent which is done so commonly nowadays that the food’s safey is at risk.
 Food Hygeine:- Food safety is the priority as it is the main demand of consumers. New technologies have given rise to modern foods but it has also created vulnerabilities and doubts in one’s mind as these food items are delivered all over the city.

Food delivery constraints: Delivery of food beyond 30 minutes leads to lose taste and gets cold if kept waiting. And the food deliveries that can be made are limited which affects the profit margin of the restaurant.
Price Range: A particular food item in the hotel’s menu has a price and customer wants it at the same rate with same taste to be delivered in a valid time frame which is a biggest challenge for the food industry. The cost involved in delivering the food is approximately three times more to that of the revenues received making it one of the biggest loss and many food businesses doesn’t find home deliveries inconvenient.
External influences: The food technology industry faces similar challenges for food delivery to an unknown locations and traffic on the roads which cannot be predicted and consumes more time than expected.
Drivers: One of the hardest challenge that food technology industry faces is their drivers. A big well-established restaurant with good service, food safety and all the pressures handled well fails at their drivers, if he is irresponsible and careless. Once the driver takes the food and leaves the restaurant then they lose hold over them as they have no idea in how many minutes did he deliver the food and how he is performing as he is outside the premises.
Expensive websites and application: The restaurant for a start has no idea how to start with food delivery process. It is hard to write down the menus and addresses of every individual customers and keep track of the orders coming one after another in a notepad to be followed.
To create an online website and manage it regularly with a cart is quite expensive and will add on the revenues generated by the restaurants which is another investment without much profit.
Working Staff: With the increase of food delivery demand, it has also increased the demand of efficiently working staff and it is a must that the staff is educated and knows the native language of that state to communicate with customers.
Social awareness: Internet and social websites like twitter, facebook etc have played an important role in publicity and marketing of the restaurants. Many customers play an important role in reviewing the food item in a positive or negative manner impacting the sales of the restaurant.
Food technology Industry are facing these challenges and find solutions by becoming hyperlocal. Many restaurants have faced delivery issues, so they have limited the deliveries to the limited areas and within an accesible radius. Many restaurants have opted a pre-order services where a time is already mentioned at which the food is supposed to be delivered 4 or 5 hours before.
Some restaurant even add on minimal service charges for delivery of the food and many restaurant try to improve their services according the reviews on the internet which is a way, helps them to target their weaknesses and work on it. They are trying to improve along with the demands of the consumers and try their best to achieve the impossible.
